For Release October 26 2009 HAWAYA RACING UPDATE, AHDRA ROCKINGHAM

Millers Creek, North Carolina

Hawaya Racing entered the AHDRA Rockingham NC event with a total of five fuel bikes. In Top Fuel, Tom Schwartz was there on his new ride to do some shake down passes. In Pro Fuel, Mark Cox was doing the riding chores on the inboard high gear bike owned by Randal Andras. In Pro Drag, three Derringer powered bikes were entered. Mike Nolen of Cycle Barn Racing was riding his record setting bike along with Bill Purvis in his first year of fuel racing. Johnny Vickers was entered on the new Product Development P/D, getting in a little seat time and doing some shake down passes.

Tom only did shake down passes getting up to speed on his new Top Fuel ride. Mark Cox qualified in the #5 spot in Pro Fuel with a 6.82 ET @ 202.4 MPH. Cox went on to the semi finals where he faced the ultimate winner, Doug Horne. Cox made his best pass of the weekend at 6.66 ET @ 198.8 MPH, but was short of Doug’s 6.57 ET @ 209.3 MPH. In Pro Drag, Mike Nolen qualified in the # 3 spot with a 7.48 ET @ 172 MPH, while Bill Purvis qualified in the # 4 spot with a best of 7.70 ET @ 149 MPH. Johnny Vickers on the new PDV-1 bike only made two passes during qualifying trying out some new components and working the bugs out of the new bike. Purvis went to the semi finals, being defeated by Chuck Jones. Mike Nolen went on the finals to face Chuck Jones. Chuck was the man to beat, running a 7.28 ET @ 165.27 MPH to Nolen’s 6.45ET @ 173.67 MPH.

“Hawaya Racing’s Product Development program is about advancing the sport of Motorcycle Drag racing, says Johnny Vickers. Even with the short time we have on the PDV bike, we are already seeing some benefits. Sometimes it’s more important to know what “not to do”. It is nice to have the option to just try anything you want without affecting the guys running in the points.”

Hawaya Racing would like to congratulate Mike Nolen on his second straight AMRA Pro Fuel National Championship.

Our next event is in Louisiana, November 6-7-8 at the Fas Coonass Blowout at No Problem Raceway Park.
