For Release September, 8, 2009 HAWAYA RACING TESTING PAYS BIG DIVIDENDS
Millers Creek, North Carolina
Hawaya Racing’s “Product Development Vehicle” testing has already paid big dividends for Mike Nolen of Cycle Barn Racing. After a successful testing session prior to the AMRA Piedmont NC event held over the Labor Day weekend, Nolen set the Pro Fuel ET and MPH record for 1/8th mile competition.
During the testing session, Johnny Vickers was aboard the new Hawaya Racing PDV #1 Derringer powered Pro Dragster. Mike Nolen was aboard his record setting Derringer powered Pro Dragster as well. Both riders were doing shake down passes testing new components. VP Racing Fuels supplied their Lane Choice 6 traction compound for the test session.
“Good traction is critical to drag racing and especially to those of us who race drag bikes, says Johnny Vickers. For safety and performance, tracks prepped with VP’s Lane Choice 6 provide the best, most consistent racing surface for what we do. With LC6, you get virtually no variation from daytime to nighttime temperatures and humidity doesn’t affect it either. You can put up good numbers right off the trailer because the track doesn’t have to ‘come around.’ It also has much better out-of-groove performance, if you get out of the groove you don’t have to shut it down—you can still get down the track. Whether it’s ¼ mile or 1/8 mile, we would prefer it if every track we raced on would be prepped with LC6.”
Hawaya Racing’s Product Development program is about advancing the sport of Motorcycle Drag racing. This includes developing better fuels and traction compounds through our long standing relationship with VP, as well as performance and safety components. Currently we are testing valve train components, exhaust systems, ignition components, fuel system components, and clutch compounds. Hawaya Racing will add a second “Product Development Vehicle” over the winter, which will be used to develop components for the injected classes.
Mike Nolen lowered the AMRA National 1/8th mile ET record on his first qualifying pass and went on to run 7 consecutive runs under the record prior to the event. When the smoke had cleared, Nolen had dropped the record from his own 4.66 seconds to 4.57 seconds at a new MPH record of 156.29.
