VICKERS QUICKEST EVER IN PRO DRAGSTER!

Millers Creek, North Carolina

MANUFACTURES CUP FALL RACE:

Johnny Vickers officially became the quickest man on the planet on a Pro Dragster at the Manufactures Cup fall race held in Valdosta Georgia on November 11th -13th 2011. Vickers qualified in the #1 position running a 7.156, which would serve to back up a new record. In the first round of eliminations, Vickers set the new all time record at 7.128, eclipsing the previous record of 7.139 held by Rick Moore.

THE RACE:

Over 500 entrants representing 5 countries lined up to show what they had for the last race of the year at the Cup. Eight - AHDRA Pro Dragsters showed up to compete in the Royal Purple Pro Dragster class presented by Hawaya Racing. In round one of eliminations, Johnny defeated Walter Halonski on the #2 School Bike by running the record 7.128. In the second round of eliminations Johnny took on up and coming Nitro Bike School graduate Rich Vreeland, who was running his personal best numbers all weekend. When the deal was done, Vickers run was again under the previous record by turning a 7.136 ET. In the finals, Vickers pitted the Hawaya Racing #1 School bike flying the “Greatest Generation” colors against the “Punisher” Dale Nilles, who was another Nitro Bike School graduate. In the end, Johnny got the nod running a 7.291 against Dale’s 7.775 in what was a very good race for the fans. Vickers numbers for the weekend were 7.318, 7.188, 7.156, 7.128, 7.136, & 7.291.

HISTORY IS MADE:

“We went into the cup race expecting to run some good numbers, says Johnny. The South Georgia Motorsports Park always gives us a great track and the weather is really cool that time of year. The HRP #1 School Bike was really running strong and I was challenged all weekend with tire spin out about 150 feet. I had made a gear change before going to the Cup race, but after a few passes, I really needed to make another, but did not have the gearing I needed. So I just massaged what I had the best I could. In the end, we were still able to pull off the record.

I did the “Tribute to the Greatest Generation” bike to honor the many ordinary people that have accomplished extra ordinary things in our history, which have made this country so great. I think it is now fitting to retire the Greatest Generation body work.”

Johnny would like to thank Royal Purple for supporting our drag racing efforts and the Manufactures Cup race. VP Racing Fuels, Mickey Thompson Tires, Vanson Leathers, Purvis Motorsports, Raw Edge Photography, and Vreeland’s Harley Davidson for their continued support. Johnny would also like to thank Steve and Leanne of HRP for all of their efforts that help make Hawaya Racing a success, and a special mention to Kirby & Lana Apathy and their crew for all of their help at the Manufactures Cup race. Kirby ran an outstanding 7.18 ET in the second round of qualifying to wind up in the #2 spot, unfortunately engine problems kept him out of eliminations.
